Rana Sanyal
Prof. Rana Sanyal graduated from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Boğaziçi University and earned her PhD in Chemistry from Boston University. She began her career as a medicinal chemist at Amgen., Inc. (Thousand Oaks, California), working in the fields of oncology and neurology. In 2004, Rana joined the Department of Chemistry at Boğaziçi University, where her research has focused on targeted drug delivery systems and the development of novel materials for biomedical applications. She is an inventor or co-inventor of more than 50 issued patents or pending applications. Since 2013, she has served as the Director of the Center for Life Sciences and Technologies, an international center of excellence.
Rana is the winner of the EIC European Prize for Women Innovators (2023-2024) and was named a Cartier Women’s Initiative Science and Technology Pioneer Award Fellow (2021). Her recognitions also include L’Oréal Turkiye “Women in Science”, Novartis “Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry Drug Design”, Turkish National Academy of Sciences “Young Investigator” and Garanti BBVA and KAGİDER “Promising Female Entrepreneur (2018)” awards.
Beyond the laboratory, Rana is a lifelong runner and former captain of her university’s track team. She placed third in the 400 meters at a national championship, an achievement she still proudly recalls. Her favorite race, however, has always been the 400-meter hurdles, a race she sees as a metaphor for life, where obstacles are not meant to make one stumble but to inspire one to jump higher.

Sena Nomak
Sena Nomak holds BEng and MEng degrees in Marine Engineering from Istanbul Technical University and is currently pursuing his PhD. He began his professional career as an Oceangoing Engineer, gaining hands-on operational experience at sea before transitioning into the shipbuilding industry, where he spent over 10 years working as a Business Development Executive and Project Coordinator.
His entrepreneurial journey began in 2011, when he co-founded an engineering company in the defense industry. Since then, as a serial entrepreneur, Sena has continued to lead and conduct projects across the marine and defense industries as well as biotechnology, combining technical depth with strategic execution.
Beyond his operational role, Sena is actively engaged in mentoring early-stage start-ups, viewing this as a responsibility to “pay it forward” to the innovation ecosystem. He believes start-ups are the driving force of the new era of collaboration among stakeholders and play a critical role in shaping the future of innovation.
While no longer navigating the seas professionally, challenging the waves to berth a colossal ship safely, Sena remains closely connected to the water, now as an amateur sailor, enjoying the harmony of the wind and sea.
